OUR BACKYARD
Hello friends!
Welcome back to this little house! I'm glad you stopped by! I hope you are enjoying your summer. The heat is having us become regulars at the community splash park. My son enjoys playing in the water a lot! I'm overjoyed watching him have so much fun with other kids. What can I say? I'm blessed!
I want to share with you what I've been upto lately out in the yard. This post is going to be the first in my DIY landscaping series. I hope you drop by soon for more to come.
My landscaping journey began March 2024 in the back yard. There was a small bush which scared the heck out of me, especially at night. I could imagine an outlaw hiding there and coming in to attack us at night! For security reasons, I wanted it gone!
I ordered a handheld chainsaw and a machete off Amazon for the job. The goal was to cut it down before the leaves started growing back. One warm morning, I went for it with all the energy within me. It took me about 6hrs (with multiple breaks in between). By 3pm I'd managed to cut down the unwanted. Now was left the cleanup task. I was so tired and decided that I'd go back the next day.
Well, the next day took longer to come than I expected because I got busy with other stuff. And when I went back to finish up; I saw something which looked like a baby snake; and I ran as fast as I could! That was it! I was done with the backyard.
Sadly I didn't take a before pic, but this is how it looked when I made the attempt to clean up the debris.
With that scare, I had to pay someone to go back there to clean up and haul away all that mess. Did they find a snake or a snake nest; no! Fear is a beast! It robbed me $600 just like that! However it gave me a clue of how landscaping projects may cost me; which moneys I wasn't ready to spend. I knew I had to reach deep down in me for my African gardening skill to help me how.
It's very relaxing. We spend so much time out here; I guess we are what you can consider outdoor people. In my native country, children spend all day outside playing with other kids and interacting with natural; having fun - simply kids being kids. I was raised outdoors and I want my son to have that experience as well instead of being glued on TV, and gadgets. This backyard is helping me achieve that.
I hope to do some improvements out there in the near future. But for now, we are enjoying it as it is.
I continue to wish you all the best. Please stop by for more updates in and around our little lived in home.
Peace be with you all.
Rita
